Aastra Launhes DECToverIP®: A new Open Mobility Solution Based on SIP
Aastra is expanding its range of open standard mobility solutions with the launch of DECToverIP® using SIP. With this new highly scalable cordless solution, Aastra is now uniquely positioned to offer to small, medium and large enterprise the mobility and voice quality of DECT via IP telephony.
Businesses of all sizes can now easily deploy an on-site DECT voice network creating a mobile workforce. Whether in retail, manufacturing or any other business environments requiring mobility, employees can stay in touch, be more responsive and productive while on the move within their companies’ premises. Aastra’s DECToverIP® solution provides users with confidential and reliable high quality DECT connection access within a building or multiple locations on the same corporate network, with full roaming and seamless hand-over between base stations.
DECToverIP® combines the superior range and quality of DECT, a proven mobility solution with the versatility of SIP which enables all features similar to SIP desk terminals such as call forward and call waiting on the DECT handsets. Aastra’s DECToverIP® solution can easily be deployed in most open-standard IP environments including; hosted or premised based using SIP based IP-PBXs (including Aastra’s PBXs supporting SIP), hybrid PBXs or open source PBXs (such as Asterisk). It is also certified for BroadSoft® Centrex solutions and compatible with other leading IP-Centrex providers such as MetaSwitch®.
DECToverIP® includes two new IP base stations known as Radio Fixed Parts (RFP), a new DECT handset designed for professional use and the OpenMobility® Manager (OMM) software. Together, these make a flexible and highly scalable DECT over SIP solution. By leveraging existing SIP-based infrastructures and IP networks, companies can easily implement a cost-effective converged wireless solution that can support up to 256 base stations and 512 handsets.
“The addition of SIP based DECToverIP® to our product line further enhances Aastra’s industry leading portfolio offering of open standard enterprise and mobility communications solutions” said Hugh Scholaert, Senior VP for Strategy & R&D. “As the migration to VoIP continues to gain momentum, the need for quality mobility solutions complementary to existing infrastructures will accelerate. With our expertise and R&D in DECT and mobility, Aastra is well positioned to become a single source provider for our customers with both desktop and wireless SIP telephony solutions making deployment and ongoing management of the endpoint even more cost-effective and efficient”.
The OpenMobility® Manager (OMM) software administers all DECT handsets and mobility activities (roaming, seamless handover between base stations and media stream). It is installed on one of the RFPs and works with any central communication server or IP PBX supporting SIP (no additional PBX is required for remote locations).
Aastra is launching two new IP DECT RFPs supporting the SIP protocol: the RFP L32 IP for indoor use and the RFP L34 IP for outdoor environments. Both can be powered over LAN (PoE) and allow up to 8 simultaneous voice communications each.
The new Aastra DECT handset 142 combines the secure high quality voice communications of DECT technology with the cost-effectiveness and versatility of IP telephony. It offers a wide range of features such as: hands-free operation, a back-lit 5-line graphic display, memory card, 100 entry phonebook, SOS-key for immediate connection to an emergency number, headset connection and vibrating alarm.
