UPPSALA UNIVERSITY CHOOSES AASTRA FOR THE TELEPHONY OF THE FUTURE

Farnborough 28th April, 2009 Uppsala University in Sweden has chosen Aastra’s MX-ONE IP call control manager for its new telephony infrastructure. With over 5,200 extensions and more than 1,000 mobile users, the university needed to select a new modern telephone communications platform offering both high capacity and wide functionality – including mobile integration - to replace its existing Nortel PBX.

Uppsala University is the oldest Nordic university, with 6,000 employees and 40,000 students. Both staff and students will benefit from using Aastra’s CMG suite that includes contact management, Computer Telephony Integration (CTI) and presence management making it simple to identify when teachers are available or in classrooms and for better collaboration.

Per Lindgren, Corporate Telephony Manager at Uppsala University, said, “We realise that our users are becoming more and more mobile, so with Aastra’s solution we can be sure that in the future this will be easier to manage. Importantly, we now share a common platform with other universities in the country making cooperation simpler.”

Claes Kolare, Country Manager, Aastra Sweden said, “Uppsala University has a complex environment covering more than 45 sites throughout the city and posing quite a challenge. Aastra was able to understand the needs of this unique environment so we can deliver the telephony platform.”

The work started in February 2009 with the main part of the network ready for Autumn 2009 and full completion at beginning of 2010.
